LITTLE HIKES for Birding 2026 series
Attending the Little Hike series with bird watching in Bastrop County, Texas, is a peaceful way to start your day in nature on the second Friday of each month. Hosted by Bird City Bastrop and local birding partners, these easy, guided morning hikes happen at different parks and trails around the county, where expert birders help you spot and identify native and migratory birds while you walk. You’ll enjoy gentle scenery, learn birding basics, and can borrow binoculars if you don’t have your own. Families and beginners are welcome, and each hike is a chance to see diverse bird species and connect with other nature enthusiasts in Bastrop’s bird-rich habitats. A companion event are the Little Sits, fourth Saturday of each month from 8:30 to 10 a.m., where everyone sits in an area to birdwatch. Bringing your own chair and water is suggested. 2026 SCHEDULE FOR LITTLE HIKES & LITTLE SITS Friday Jan. 9 LITTLE HIKE – McKinney Roughs Nature Park- Hwy 71 Trailhead -Zip Line Location (1760 SH 71W, Cedar Creek) Saturday Jan. 24 LITTLE SIT – Circle D Lakes (926 FM 1441, Bastrop – right side of Fire Station) Friday Feb. 13 LITTLE HIKE – Lake Bastrop Northshore Park – Buzzard Trail – (603 FM 1441, Bastrop) Saturday Feb. 28 LITTLE SIT – Lake Bastrop Southshore Park- Boat Ramp Bird Blind- (375 South Shore Dr, Bastrop) Friday March 13 LITTLE HIKE – Bastrop State Park-Army Trails – (Loop 150, Bastrop) Saturday March 28 LITTLE SIT – Bastrop State Park – follow signs (Loop 150, Bastrop) Friday April 10 LITTLE HIKE – Colorado River Refuge – Cottonwood Kings Trail (in Bastrop County Park at 375 Riverside Dr, Bastrop) Saturday…
